Our top Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. New Listing! Lagoon View, close to Beach and Pool, Ping-Pong, and more! - 6 Ocean Point has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
