Vacation rental booking tips:
How to get the best value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.
How to select the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sweet Tea Suite: Southern Blend of Comfort & Charm has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
