Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book the perfectvacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Sweet Tea Suite: Southern Blend of Comfort & Charm has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
