Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking a perfect Charleston area rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Charleston Charmer - House close to King St! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
