Charleston area rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking yourrental:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Charleston Charmer - House close to King St! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
