Booking the best vacation property experience:
Get the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Rosemary House
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you crave, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
