Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston rental experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Rosemary House
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
