Finding the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best rental home:
- Start by having your group select the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Savor Southern History at Lewis Court (Suite B) has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
