Getting the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Savor Southern History at Lewis Court (Suite B) has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If not, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Additional considerations:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
