Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to visit Isle of Palms & When to reserve a rental home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking yourrental home:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanside Shipwatch Villa, Steps to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
