When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. - Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.

More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.

If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
