Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose yourvacation home:
- First, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Bee & Blossom
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
