Our top Charleston vacation rental home tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area rental:
- To start, have your family decide on vacation dates and a budget.
- Designer Charleston Charm has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
