Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful Historic Charleston Home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
