Tips to get the best Charleston rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- First, have your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Mod Suite in the Heart of Historic Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
