Charleston area vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Plum Palm Cottage-Lux Hotel Style Stay 6 min to downtown & close to Folly Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
