Getting the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose the right Charleston area vacation home:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Plum Palm Cottage-Lux Hotel Style Stay 6 min to downtown & close to Folly Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, email the host before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
