Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio (2F) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
