Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. ON THE MARKET - CHARMING STUDIO IN THE HEART OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
