Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking your Charleston area rental:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. ON THE MARKET - CHARMING STUDIO IN THE HEART OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you simply love, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
