Finding the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sweet Couples Retreat at The Vesper Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
