Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking a perfectrental:
- To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Sweet Couples Retreat at The Vesper Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
