Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Finding the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. The Low Tide - Hot Tub, Marsh View, Fire Pit has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
