Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio (1Q) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
