Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
