Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to book:

  • To find the best rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants.
  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental home:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Rutledge Avenue Inn (Suite C) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
