Strategies to get the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best rental for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain deals for local shops and restaurants.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Historic 1905 Charming Bungalow 2 Blocks From King has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
