Getting the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Large Home Right by the Beach! Private Pool & Elevator! Fun Backyard w\/ Swingset has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you simply love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
