Strategies to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and picking the bestrental:

  • Choose your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Downtown Duplex - St Philip St - Sleeps 20 has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
