Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Selecting the best rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • To start, have your family commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Downtown Historic Gem + Charming Porch! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your agreement.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
