Rental home booking tips:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Cozy Family Beach Home w\/Private Pool & Just Steps to the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
