Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the perfectrental home:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. New Kitchen 2023 Cozy Family Beach Home w\/Private Pool & Just Steps to the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is right for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
