Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Southern Charms on Spring ~ Walk Everywhere! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
