Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the bestrental home:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Jasmine
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, call the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
