Tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. 3 Bed 3 Bath Historic Home \"4 Blocks from King St\" has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
