Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your family choose the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 3 Bed 3 Bath Historic Home \"4 Blocks from King St\" has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
