How to find the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. May Your Vacation Shine at The Ruby Suite has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
