Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your family commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Bright Furnished Condo. 3 Mins to Downtown, 10 to Folly Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
