Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Bright Furnished Condo. 3 Mins to Downtown, 10 to Folly Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you simply love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
