Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Romantic Loft Apartment in Historic Downtown with Optional Parking has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, email or call the host before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you crave, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
