How to get the best Charleston rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Private Porch with Parking - 2 Blocks to King! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
