Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
