Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental home:

  • Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront 3rd Floor Condo with Community Pool & Fishing Pier! In Heart of IOP! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
