Getting the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. KING STREET - Cozy 2 Bedroom - Downtown Charleston has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
