Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area rental experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking the right Charleston area vacation home:
- To start, have your group select trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Southern Shangri-La A
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
