How to book the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Book your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the rightrental:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Stunningly Renovated, Historic Home in the Heart of Charleston; Private Courtyard; Two Master Suites has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
