Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Isle of Palms. Book your Charleston area rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Tucked in among trees, get away in this charming home short walk to the beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
