Strategies for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Book your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 10 Sandcrab Court by AvantStay
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
