Vacation rental tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best rental home in Charleston:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to date ranges and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Pet Friendly & Convenient 2 Bedroom with private fenced in yard and Hottub has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
