Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to book:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Pet Friendly & Convenient 2 Bedroom with private fenced in yard and Hottub has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Call the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
