Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. Reserve your rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Classic Family Beach Home w\/Game Room & Private Pool! Short 1 Block Walk to Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
