Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and choose a perfect Charleston area rental home:

  • First, have your group select vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Modern Renovated Condo Walkable to King Street has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your family.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
