How to find the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Modern Renovated Condo Walkable to King Street has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
