Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Modern Condo Downtown in the French Quarter - walk to EVERYTHING! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
