Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Moonstone Suite: Modern Oasis Near King Street! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
