Tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and picking your prefectrental home:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Moonstone Suite: Modern Oasis Near King Street! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
