Strategies for getting the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Minutes to Downtown 2br Apartment
90 Night Minimum has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search. - Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a great stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
