Tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose a perfect Charleston area rental:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Multi-Room Panoramic Oceanfront Views, Community pool - 505 Summerhouse has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
