Rental home booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Multi-Room Panoramic Oceanfront Views, Community pool - 505 Summerhouse has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
