Tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the largest rental within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Luxurious Villa with Ocean Views and Community Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. message the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
