Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Lowcountry Cottage Suite 3 miles from oceanfront and 8 miles to downtown! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
