Strategies to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Lowcountry Cottage Suite 3 miles from oceanfront and 8 miles to downtown! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
