How to find the best rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lowcountry Cottage Suite 3 miles from oceanfront and 8 miles to downtown! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
