Charleston area vacation rental home tips:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Brighthouse CHS has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. text the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
