Getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to book:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best rental for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect vacation home in Charleston:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Captain Steve's Creek Retreat has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. message the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
