Strategies to get the very best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Captain Steve's Creek Retreat has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
