Booking the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Port O'Call B 203, Direct Ocean View! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If not, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
