Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking the best Charleston area rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King St ‘The Canary Palm’ has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
